Ascendancies are powerful specializations that shape how you play, granting unique skills and bonuses.
Ascendancies are granted through a special charm called the Ascendancy Stone that can only be obtained after completing several special encounters.
Ascendancy stones can be further upgraded (meaning you can further ascend) by completing specific challenges, some of which are tied to very hard endgame content.
There are 5 ascendancy tiers you can attain, each challenge being harder than the previous one, but the bonuses being stronger as well.
Ascendancy Stones cannot be shared to other characters . You can only have one ascendancy stone equipped at any time.
Needless to say, each tier can only be achieved once. However, you can achieve them in any order.
Due to an engine limitation, the special effect from tier 4 will not apply if you haven't ascended to tier 3 first. Once you ascend to tier 3, tier 4 will automatically take effect.
Ascendancy stones cannot be modified by regular means (they cannot be corrupted, anointed, broken down for maple leaves etc.).

Tier 1 Challenge

In order to get an Ascendancy Stone, you need to kill 5 special superuniques scattered around Sanctuary
and transmute the elemental orbs each of them drop to obtain the Orb of Creation.
The orb can then be transmuted with specific colored gems to unlock the ascendancy of your choice.

Tier 2 Challenge

The second tier is achieved by killing Baal on hell difficulty and transmuting the ascendancy stone with itself.

Tier 3 Challenge

The third tier is achieved by killing all of Uber Tristram bosses within one minute of each other without dying and transmuting the ascendancy stone with a Maple Leaf.

The fourth tier is achieved by killing any of the Invincible Prime Evils in Eye of the Storm Tier 5 Map and transmuting the ascendancy stone with 2 Maple Leaves.

Tier 5 Challenge

The fifth tier is the most difficult tier to achieve and will test your build to the limit. You have to kill the Lich King in Icecrown Citadel Tier 5 Map on players 8 difficulty and transmute the ascendancy stone with 3 Maple Leaves.

Awakened Ascendancy

**Annihilation is a devastating 6 elemental nova (F/C/L/P/Phys/Magic), entire screen area of effect skill that deals 100% weapon damage converted to each respective element per nova as well as significant spell damage of each damage type which gets scaled by total attributes, knockbacks enemies and lowers all of their resistances by 25% for 2 seconds.
**Annihilation only procs when you are below 30% current life.
